The Pine Tree and Tiger motif is iconic in Japanese art. The evergreen pine tree stands as a symbol of life and longevity, while the tiger is a symbol of wealth, status, and posterity. The tiger in this motif is based on the painting "Rosho Mouko-zu," Ferocious Tiger, by Edo period artist Okyo Maruyama.
The design is created using hand-applied gold leaf crafted by skilled artisans in the traditional craft center of Kanazawa in Ishikawa Prefecture on the west coast of Japan. Kanazawa is also located a short distance from Wajima, where the urushi lacquer and Maki-e work on both Platinum and Nakaya pens is done.
The pen can fill using any bottled fountain pen ink when fitted with the provided converter, and can also use Platinum brand disposable ink cartridges. It comes packaged in an attractive softwood presentation box and includes a starter ink cartridge along with the converter. Our complimentary nib tuning adjusts optimum pressure and ink flow to your personal preferences.
