Sailor's Koshu Inden pens are being produced in very small numbers. Each pen is hand-crafted in Japan using artisanal techniques with a centuries-old history. Koshu Inden is a much-honored Japanese leather craft in which traditional patterns are painted in Urushi lacquer on natural deer skin, giving the surface of these writing instruments a unique tactile quality. Sailor's Koshu Inden pens feature the work of Makoto Yamamoto, a much-celebrated practitioner of this craft with over forty years experience as an artist and teacher.
Koshu Inden is a much-honored Japanese leather craft where artists use Urushi lacquer to paint designs over deer skin. Here, artist Makoto Yamamoto's design places small cherry blossoms atop the leather. Once used to decorate warriors' helmets and armor, cherry blossom patterns are often seen today on kimonos.
The Sailor Koshu Inden Petite Cherry Blossoms arrives in a beautiful softwood presentation box adorned to match the design of the pen itself. If you touch the surface of the box you will feel the raised pattern, emphasizing the tactile element of the fountain pen within.
