The Pelikan M1000 Raden Sunrise Red Limited Edition has been produced in just 333 numbered pieces worldwide. We have managed to secure a very few for our customers.
This unique writing instrument is first lacquered with red Japanese urushi. In order to make the raden stripes, abalone shell is placed on the ground, flattened with a hard stone into very thin sheets, cut into narrow strips, and finally affixed to the lacquer coating. Afterwards, more layers of clear urushi lacquer are applied to lock in the Raden, and then the M1000 Sunrise Red Limited Edition is polished to a high sheen.
Normally made available by Pelikan only in Medium, we are able to provide this pen with any of Pelikan's M1000 18k two-tone nib units.
Once reserved for Japanese royalty, the raden maki-e technique is a symbol of power and wealth. The red urushi used here, combined with the vivid raden stripes, is meant to emulate the red-tinged sky at dawn. Note the single chick Pelikan logo engraved in the gold plated cap crown.
Each pen is personally signed in gold kanji characters by the Maki-e artist. Pelikan's renowned large capacity piston-fill mechanism, originally patented in 1929, allows this pen to be filled with any bottled fountain pen ink.
The M1000 Raden Sunrise Red Limited Edition ships in a traditional Japanese Paulownia wood box, signed and sealed, adding to this writing instrument's appeal as a gift item.
