In Japanese culture roosters are believed to get rid of evil spirits as they crow to welcome the light of day and usher out the darkness of night.
This full-sized writing instrument features a larger pen body than the Yukari Collection and is perfect for those who prefer a bit more heft to their fountain pens. Yukari Royale series pens utilize a cartridge-converter filling system - pens can be filled with any bottled fountain pen ink by using the provided converter, or can use Pilot-Namiki brand cartridges.
Utilizing the Chinkin technique, the artist carves the detailed pattern of the roosters and surrounding plants using the sharpest of engraving tools.. Gold powder is then rubbed to fill in the carvings, and urushi lacquer is used to seal in the gold powder and coat the masterpiece.
This is an extremely time-intensive process, as the skilled Maki-e artist must use care when carving the fine, narrow lines of the design. A close look at the feathers, claws, and facial expressions of the roosters demonstrates the mastery of the marks that the Maki-e artist must achieve in order to leave a realistic impression.
The Namiki solid gold 18k nib is inscribed with the silhouette of Mt. Fuji as well as the Namiki pentagon logo. Namiki 18k gold nibs are well-suited to customizations including Stub, Cursive Italic, or Left Oblique.
Each Namiki Yukari Royale Chinkin Royal Rooster fountain pen arrives in an elegant velvet-lined wooden presentation box and includes a bottle of ink. Only the box bottom is shown here.
