A syncretic god with origins in the Buddhist deity Mahesvara and the indigenous Shinto god Okuninushi-no-Mikoto, Daikoku-ten was originally worshipped as the god of farming, food, and wealth. In more recent times, Daikoku-ten is associated with riches, happiness, and great fortune.
The motif on this pen depicts Daikoku-ten sitting on a straw rice-bag, with a large bag on his back and a magic mallet in his hand. Each pen is hand-finished by noted Maki-e artist Mamoru Wakabayashi, a member of the Kokkokai collective signing his works as Mamoru.
Not just a beautiful work of art in its own right, the Yukari Daikoku-ten is also a superb everyday writing instrument which uses Namiki's convenient cartridge-converter filling system - the pen can fill with any bottled fountain pen ink when fitted with the provided converter, and can also use Pilot brand ink cartridges.
Each pen comes in a bespoke wooden presentation box which includes a bottle of Pilot Iroshizuku Daikoku-ten Limited Edition ink, as well as a box of ink cartridges. The lid of the presentation box features a laser engraving depicting Mt.Fuji and a treasure ship carrying the gods of good fortune.
Our complimentary nib tuning adjusts pressure and ink flow to your personal preferences, and our optional nib customizations can add to the character and distinctiveness of your writing on the page - but if you are a collector who would prefer to leave the pen unadjusted, just indicate this in your notes during check-out. We are an authorized Namiki dealer.
