The only female deity among the Japanese Seven Gods of Good Fortune, Benzai-ten originated as an Indian river goddess and is traditionally enshrined in places relating to water. Having evolved into a syncretic Buddhist-Shinto deity, Benzai-ten is also associated with music, languages, and the arts, and is venerated as a goddess of wisdom who bestows good fortune in beauty and marriage.
The motif on the Yukari Benzai-ten depicts the goddess playing a biwa, the traditional Japanese lute, and a wave splash is crafted in mother-of-pearl raden. The Maki-e work on this pen has been created by members of the Kokkokai Collective, founded more than eighty years ago. The Benzai-ten motif is created by Kokkokai artist Yumi Hayashi, whose signature is Yumi.
Not just a beautiful work of art in its own right, the Yukari Benzai-ten is also a superb everyday writing instrument which uses Namiki's convenient cartridge-converter filling system - the pen can fill with any bottled fountain pen ink when fitted with the provided converter, and can also use Pilot brand ink cartridges.
Each pen comes in a bespoke wooden presentation box which includes a bottle of Pilot Iroshizuku Benzai-ten Limited Edition ink, as well as a box of ink cartridges. The lid of the presentation box features a laser engraving depicting Mt.Fuji and a treasure ship carrying the gods of good fortune.
