Each pen has been hand-finished over a year-long period in advanced Maki-e techniques which include chinkin gold and silver inlay and mother-of-pearl raden.
More than just a superb work of art in its own right, the Emperor Shijin can also be a wonderful everyday writer - our complimentary nib tuning adjusts pressure and ink flow to your own personal preferences, and our optional nib customizations can add to the character of your writing on the page. Genbu, Master of Water, Suzaku, Master of Fire, Seiryu, Master of Wood, and Byakko, Master of Metal, are the four deities portrayed by Maki-e artist Masuru Hayashi on the Namiki Emperor Shijin Limited Edition - Shinjin translates into English as "Four Gods." These Four Gods also represent the four cardinal directions, as well as being deeply connected with the principles of Feng Shu.
The Emperor Shijin is an eyedropper filler with a very generous ink capacity and can fill using any standard fountain pen ink. Each pen is provided with your choice of 18k solid gold nib and ships in a special jet black lacquer presentation box which includes a serial number plate and special bottle of limited edition black ink. A maroon polishing cloth, leaflet with the certificate card, and artist card are also included.
