The Namiki Emperor Rakucho Birds and Weeping Cherry Blossom utilizes time-intensive textured Oh-hi Nuri technique, literally "painting as cherry blossom bark," to create the quietly stunning and evocative motif. Under the birds and the blossoms the crafted illusion of cherry bark turns the entire pen into the cherry tree. Even the clip is carefully hand painted in the same careful underlying motif.
The two Rakucho birds, which symbolize eternal love and happy marriage, are realized in traditional Togidashi Taka Maki-e technique, while the cherry blossom petals are inlaid with mother of pearl and polished for a luminous finish. The Maki-e artist is Masahiro Tamada of the renowned and venerable Kokkokai collective in Kanagawa, just south of Tokyo.
The Emperor features a high capacity eyedropper filling system which provides for many hours of uninterrupted writing and allows for the use of any bottled fountain pen ink. The pen ships in a special presentation box which includes a signature card, instructions, and a bottle of Namiki Blue ink. We are an authorized Namiki dealer.
