Each flower is hand-painted using acrylic powders, creating unique variety on each pen. The pen body is made from high-quality acrylic resin, rather than Nakaya's traditional ebonite, in order to accommodate this special painting technique. Urushi lacquer on the finish adds shine and captures the silver maki-e sprinkles.
Notice the stunning design details on the barrel. Brightly colored tulips in shades of yellow, orange, and red grow amongst lush green leaves. Between the tulips small blue flowers add a touch of color contrast.Nakaya pens can be filled with bottled fountain pen ink using the provided converter, and can also use Platinum brand top quality ink cartridges. Hand-painted Maki-e converters are also available.

Nakaya pens ship in a solid softwood shipping box decorated with Japanese Kanji script and lined with decorative rice paper. A fabric pen "kimono" and starter box of Platinum brand cartridges are also included, making this pen a lovely presentation item.
