With its textured stone-like finish and sleek silver color, the Nakaya Portable Writer Ishi-me Kanshitsu Suzu fountain pen achieves greatness by virtue of its streamlined design and flawless surface. This is an understated version of silver - perfect for someone who gravitates towards white metal in watches and wants a subtle sheen.
The process of collecting the Urushi (sap) and applying many layers of lacquer to this fountain pen takes three months to complete. The craftsman sprinkles urushi powder onto the still-wet urushi body, which creates a grainy surface. After it has set up, he varnishes the body with more lacquer several times to make the body harden. He sharpens these grains with charcoal abrasion and finishes with a silver lacquer. It is truly an artistic craftsmanship to decorate a fountain pen with a stone-like finish - "Ishi" translates as "a stone" in Japanese.
This is a full-size pen that fits comfortably in most hands. The texture is a delight to the touch, and it continues all the way to the gripping section for a unique writing experience.
The Portable Writer in Ishi-me Kanshitsu Suzu can be filled with bottled fountain pen ink using the provided converter. Hand-painted Maki-e converters are also available. Nakaya pens can also use Platinum brand top quality ink cartridges.
Nakaya pens are individually handcrafted in a process that requires a minimum of three to six months and often much longer.
