Nakaya Portable Cigar Metal Thread Aka-tamenuri
If you have always enjoyed Nakaya's ebonite and urushi fountain pens, but would prefer a writing instrument with a bit more heft than these provide, the new Metal Thread in Aka-tamenuri may be the pen for you.
As unadorned as this pen is, it achieves greatness by virtue of its materials, surface and color. Shown here is the Portable size Cigar (No Clip) Metal Thread in Aka-tamenuri (Reddish-Red). This Nakaya fountain pen is made of hard rubber or ebonite that is meticulously coated with Urushi, a material made from the sap of a Japanese lacquer tree. The process of collecting the Urushi and applying many layers of lacquer to this fountain pen takes three months to complete.
Note the metal threading at the front of the barrel - this, and the $100 reduction in the price, is the only difference between these Metal Thread pens and the traditional all-ebonite versions of these pens.
The Nakaya nib, imprinted Nakata, the family name of the manufacturer is made of solid 14K gold. Each of these nibs is suitable for our customization to extra flexible. The medium and broad tip can be customized by us into cursive italic, stub or oblique points.
