Nakaya Piccolo Writer Shu Unpolished

The matte surface on the Shu (red) fountain pen reveals an entirely different color than the polished version. This one takes on a Matte sheen as seen in the soft reflections of the cap and barrel.

This Nakaya fountain pen is available as a

Cigar (without clip) or as a Writer (with clip).

It is made of hard rubber and coated with Urushi, a material made from the sap of a Japanese lacquer tree. The process of collecting the Urushi (sap) and applying many layers of lacquer to this fountain pen takes three months to complete. This finish reveals a level of craftsmanship and attention that we have only seen in the finest pens. Controling a matte surface is extremely challenging even for a master painter. Notice how the red color varies as it rounds the edge of the cap and barrel.

The Nakaya nib, imprinted Nakata, the family name of the manufacturer is made of solid 14K gold.

Decorative rice paper, a simple solid softwood shipping box decorated with Japanese Kanji script, and a fabric pen "kimono" are all included with this pen, making it a lovely presentation item. Sensible and elegant packaging has long been a hallmark of Nakaya.
