Nakaya Piccolo Writer Shinobu Red Black

Known for its tough fronds yet delicate and lacy pattern, the Shinobu fern is a symbol of endurance and beauty. A study in harmonious juxtapositions, the Shinobu fronds branch out across the barrel and cap of the Nakaya Piccolo Writer Chinkin Shinobu Red and Black fountain pen with a quiet grace.

The Nakaya Piccolo Writer Chinkin Shinobu Red and Black fountain pen is handcrafted from ebonite and Urushi lacquer.

Chinkin is a technique in which a sharp instrument is used to cut the fine, narrow lines of a motif onto a lacquered surface. The lines are then filled in with metallic or pigmented powder.

Chinkin is a technique in which a sharp instrument is used to cut the fine, narrow lines of a motif onto a lacquered surface. The lines are then filled in with pigmented powder.

This is a time-intensive method, and these pens take five months or more to be created. Notice how the Shinobu pattern is cut into the gripping section, in a display of meticulous attention to detail and fine craftsmanship.

The Piccolo Writer Chinkin Shinobu Red and Black fountain pen is a smaller, compact pen, but one which still fits comfortably in the hand. With its softly coned cap ends and simple shape, this Nakaya model provides the perfect canvas for the intricate frond engravings. See the lush fern leaves as they spread out over of the bright red barrel below.

Nakaya pens can be filled with bottled fountain pen ink using the provided converter and can also use Platinum brand high quality ink cartridges. Hand-painted Maki-e converters are also available.

The gold clip and nib, add to the rich look of this pen.

14k nibs are well-suited to customizations including Architect's, Stub, Cursive Italic, and Left Oblique points, as well as the modification for added flexibility

Nakaya pens ship in a solid softwood shipping box decorated with Japanese Kanji script and lined with decorative rice paper. A fabric pen kimono and starter box of Platinum brand cartridges are also included, making this pen a lovely presentation item. Sensible and elegant packaging has long been a hallmark of the Nakaya brand.

Nakaya pens are individually handcrafted in a process that requires a minimum of three to six months and often much longer.
