The name Piccolo comes from the smallest of the woodwind instruments, and in true form the Nakaya Piccolo Writer Kuro-roiro fountain pen is one of the shortest of the Nakaya urushi pens. Coated in many layers of urushi resin, this pen is a lustrous deep black. A gold clip on the Piccolo Writer model adds an element of elegance and practicality.

The Nakaya Piccolo Writer Kuro-roiro fountain pen is handcrafted from ebonite and Urushi lacquer, and comes standard with your choice of solid gold 14k single-tone nib in Extra Fine, Fine, Medium, Broad,or Extra Broad, with Fine Soft, Medium Soft, and Super Extra Fine nibs also available.

 

The Writer model in Kuro-roiro is simple yet sleek and sophisticated. Because of its understated finish it is also one of the least expensive of the Urushi pens, making it a great introduction to the Nakaya line.

This is a more compact fountain pen than the other Nakaya models, yet will fit comfortably in most hands. It is not too heavy or too light, instead striking the perfect balance. The gold clip adds just the slightest bit of weight in comparison to the clipless Cigar model and allows the pen to be securely fastened to a shirt pocket. It also functions as a built-in roll stopper.


This simple elegant shape, with its turned tapered pyramid cap and smooth transition between the cap and barrel, is an exercise in spare design. 
 

The Nakaya Piccolo Writer can be filled with bottled fountain pen ink using the provided converter. Nakaya pens can also use Platinum brand high quality ink cartridges. Hand-painted Maki-e converters are also available.


14k nibs are well-suited to customizations including Architect's Stub, Cursive Italic, and Left Oblique, as well as the modification for added flex. The double slit Music nib is available at an added premium, as are plated nibs in Pink Gold, Rhodium, Ruthenium, or Two-Tone.

Decorative rice paper, a simple solid softwood shipping box decorated with Japanese Kanji script, and a fabric pen "kimono" are all included with this pen, making it a lovely presentation item. Sensible and elegant packaging has long been a hallmark of the Nakaya brand.

Nakaya pens are individually handcrafted in a process that requires a minimum of three to six months and often much longer.
