Nakaya Piccolo Cigar Negoro Araishu

Many of Nakaya's special edition pens use unique combinations of technique which defy easy categorization by the traditional standards of Maki-e art. As always, Nakaya seeks to stretch the boundaries of what can be achieved both on and with a fountain pen.

The double slit Music nib is available at an added premium, as are plated nibs in Pink Gold, Rhodium, Ruthenium, or Two-Tone.

Nakaya's Negoro style pens feature artfully engraved "cracks" etched onto the surface of the cap and barrel. The orange Nakaya Piccolo Cigar Negoro Araishu Nuno Kise Hon Kataji version seen here combines a classic fountain pen color with this most unusual and provocative style.

More than just a distinctive art object, this is also a practical and durable everyday writing instrument. It can be filled with bottled fountain pen ink using the provided converter, and can also use Platinum brand cartridges. Hand-painted Maki-e converters are also available.

The Negoro weathering process is particularly painstaking and time-consuming - production of these pens usually requires six months or more. Here the artist intentionally exposes the fountain pen's base to celebrate the concept of aging.

This is a compact fountain pen that packs a punch.

Because each Nakaya pen is handcrafted by a skilled artisan, no two pens will be exactly alike, and the color will vary from pen to pen.

These smooth-writing 14k nibs are well-suited to customizations including Stub, Cursive Italic, or Left Oblique, as well as the modification for added flex.

Nakaya pens ship in a solid softwood shipping box decorated with Japanese Kanji script and lined with decorative rice paper. A fabric pen kimono and starter box of Platinum brand cartridges are also included, making this pen a lovely presentation item. Sensible and elegant packaging has long been a hallmark of the Nakaya brand.

Nakaya pens are individually handcrafted in a process that requires a minimum of three to six months and often much longer.

Unless requested otherwise, each pen or nib you purchase from us will be carefully examined, tested, and optimized for your personal writing characteristics.
