The Nakaya Piccolo Cigar Midori fountain pen is handcrafted from ebonite and Urushi lacquer, and comes standard with solid gold 14k single-tone nib in your choice of tipping size.
The name Piccolo comes from the smallest of the woodwind instruments, and true to form the Nakaya Piccolo Cigar Midori fountain pen is one of the shortest Nakaya pens. Coated in many layers of Urushi resin, this writing instrument is enrobed in a rich, lush dark green finish.
This simple elegant shape, with its turned tapered pyramidal cap and smooth transition between the cap and barrel, is an exercise in spare design. Traditionally, Japanese people have admired pines or evergreens as the symbol of the vitality of plants as well as immortality. Over time the Urushi lacquer will become even more vibrant and bright, though it is initially quite deep in color.
The Nakaya Piccolo Cigar can be filled with bottled fountain pen ink using the provided converter. Nakaya pens can also use Platinum brand ink cartridges. Hand-painted Maki-e converters are also available.
This is a more compact fountain pen than the Naka-ai or Neo Standard, yet will fit comfortably in most hands without posting the cap. Light reflects and refracts off of the surface of the softly coned end caps.
