Showcasing a combination of some of the most time-intensive techniques utilized for producing Nakaya fountain pens, the Dorsal Fin Version 2 in Ishime-Kanshitsu Midori finish is only produced on a very occasional basis. We strongly suggest ordering an available pen when in stock, as back orders, when even accepted, can often require a year or more to be fulfilled.

Rich green Midori is a particularly challenging urushi lacquer to create, and the Dorsal Fin model requires multiple layers to be applied and then allowed to dry in order to create the distinctive fin shapes. Ishime-Kanshitsu adds literally another layer of complexity, as dried urushi flakes are sprinkled over a still-wet base and then meticulously hand-adjusted, flake by flake.
The distinctive appearance in no way lessens this pen's utility as a versatile writing instrument. It can fill using any bottled fountain pen ink when fitted with the reusable ink converter, provided by us free of charge, and can also use Platinum brand disposable ink cartridges. A softwood presentation box, fabric pen kimono, and starter pack of ink cartridges are also included with your order.
