With its ten facets and streamlined shape, the Nakaya Decapod in Toki-tamenuri ST provides an excellent showcase for the tamenuri version of the popular rose-pink Toki-iro finish. The underlying deep pink color is visible on the facet breaks and along the threads, and will become more prominent in time as the outer layers of Urushi lacquer mature.

This is an excellent choice for those who covet the now discontinued Shiro-tamenuri finish, as it features a similar brown over-layer with a slightly warmer result.

The Nakaya Decapod Cigar Toki-tamenuri fountain pen is handcrafted from ebonite and Urushi lacquer, and comes standard with your choice of solid gold 14k nib.


The Decapod is one of the most distinctive and instantly recognizable of the pen styles created by Nakaya. Uniquely well suited to Urushi finishing, the facets on these ten-sided pens allow the underlying color to be clearly seen.

This is not only a stunning work of art but also a mid-sized pen that can easily become your everyday writer. Nakaya pens can be filled with bottled fountain pen ink using the provided converter, and can also use Platinum brand ink cartridges.

Like all Nakaya Urushi pens, each Decapod is made of hand-turned ebonite hard rubber, then sent to the Wajima region in western Japan for finishing with Urushi lacquer. As with all hand-made pens, colors will vary slightly from pen to pen - no two will ever be exactly alike. The clipless Cigar version provides an uninterupted display for the Toki-tamenuri color. As the underlying pink breaks through at the facets it casts a pinkish-orange light much like the sun at the break of dawn.


The flat surface of the end caps gleam with lacquer finish. You can see the ten-sided decagon shape clearly as you peer down from an angle.


14k nibs are well-suited to customizations including Stub, Cursive Italic, and Left Oblique, as well as the modification for added flexibility.

Decorative rice paper, a simple solid softwood shipping box decorated with Japanese Kanji script, and a fabric pen "kimono" are all included with this pen, making it a lovely presentation item. Sensible and elegant packaging has long been a hallmark of the Nakaya brand.
