Nakaya Portable Cigar Metal Thread Kuro-roiro
If you have always enjoyed Nakaya's ebonite and urushi fountain pens, but would prefer a writing instrument with a bit more heft than these provide, the new Metal Thread in Kuro-roiro may be the pen for you.
Note the metal threading at the front of the barrel - this, and the $100 reduction in the price, is the only difference between these Metal Thread pens and the traditional all-ebonite versions of these pens.
Black Kuro-roiro urushi is sleek and smooth on the slender Portable Cigar.
The Urushi tradition is historic and profound in Japan, where lacquer ware has adorned utilitarian objects for centuries. This technique, though painstaking, gives this fountain pen its deep lustrous sheen. The process of collecting the Urushi and applying many layers of lacquer to this fountain pen is a time-intensive process.
14k nibs are well-suited to customizations including Stub, Cursive Italic, and Left Oblique, as well as the modification for added flex - see our nib customizations page for more information.
