Nakaya Naka-ai Cigar Sumiko Katana
A memorable work of Maki-e art from Nakaya, the Naka-ai Cigar Sumiko Katana is hand-finished by skilled artisans in the traditional craft center of Wajima on the west coast of Japan. Each pen requires up to a year or more to be produced, and we strongly recommend purchasing an in-stock pen when available.
Our complimentary nib tuning adjusts pressure and ink flow to your personal writing characteristics, and our optional nib customizations can add to the character of your writing and can also make this pen a valuable tool for calligraphy and other skilled handwriting techniques.
Sumiko finish is created by adding multiple layers of dried sumi ink to the ebonite body of a Nakaya pen. An ultra-thin layer of clear fuki-urushi lacquer is then applied, followed by the gold and silver powders for the sword in Maki-e technique seen here.
Nakaya pens can fill using Platinum brand disposable ink cartridges, and can also use any bottled fountain pen ink when fitted with a reusable ink converter, provided by us free of charge with your order.
Each Nakaya pen ships in a special softwood presentation box and includes a cloth pen kimono and starter pack of ink cartridges along with the converter. We are the sole authorized Nakaya dealer in the English speaking world.
