The double slit Music nib is available at an added premium, as are plated nibs in Pink Gold, Rhodium, Ruthenium, or Two-Tone.

This is an understated version of silver - perfect for someone who gravitates towards silver jewlery or watches yet wants more of a subtle sheen.

The process of collecting the Urushi (sap) and applying many layers of lacquer to this fountain pen takes three months to complete. The craftsman sows Urushi powder onto the body, which creates a grainy surface. After it has settled, he varnishes the body with lacquer several times to make the body harden. He sharpens these grains with charcoal and finishes with a silver lacquer. It is truly an artistic craftsmanship to decorate a fountain pen with a stone-like finish - "Ishi" translates as "a stone" in Japanese.

This is a mid-size pen that fits comfortably in most hands. The texture is a delight to the touch, and it continues all the way to the gripping section for a unique writing experience.


As with all hand-painted Tame-nuri pens, the colors will vary slightly from pen to pen - no two will ever be exactly the same.

The Portable Cigar in Ishi-me Kanshitsu Suzu can be filled with bottled fountain pen ink using the provided converter. Nakaya pens can also use Platinum brand ink cartridges. Hand-painted Maki-e converters are also available.

14k nibs are well-suited to customizations including Stub, Cursive Italic, and Left Oblique, as well as the modification for added flex.

Though made available in all nib choices offered, the ruthenium-plated nib complements the suzu finish.

Nakaya pens ship in a solid softwood shipping box decorated with Japanese Kanji script and lined with decorative rice paper. A fabric pen "kimono" and starter box of Platinum brand cartridges are also included, making this pen a lovely presentation item. Sensible and elegant packaging has long been a hallmark of the Nakaya brand.

Nakaya pens are individually handcrafted in a process that requires a minimum of three to six months and often much longer.
