In Tame-Sukashi technique, layers of clear, smooth Urushi lacquer are applied over a painted motif - it is similar to Tame-Nuri technique, in which lacquer is applied over a solid color. The underlying motif in Tame-Sukashi will become more promiment over time as the Urushi lacquer ages and becomes more transparent.

At first glance this pen my appear to be another Portable Cigar in Aka-tamenuri but after close examination the image of a golden dragon can be seen through the deep layers of Urushi. With its intricate detail and long size, the Nakaya Portable Cigar Aka-tamenuri Ascending Dragon fountain pen is a striking writing instrument with presence.
If you prefer the earthy brownish-green tones of Heki-tamenuri, the Nakaya Portable Cigar Ascending Dragon is also available in that finish. Decorative rice paper, a simple solid softwood shipping box decorated with Japanese Kanji script, and a fabric pen "kimono" are all included with this pen, making it a lovely presentation item.
