Nakaya Naka-ai Cigar Ishime-Kanshitsu Kikyo
Available exclusively from us, the Nakaya Naka-ai Cigar in Ishime-Kanshitsu Kikyo finish is a hand-crafted pen requiring up to a year to be produced. Each pen is hand-turned from ebonite hard rubber in Tokyo, sent to Wajima on the west coast of Japan for finishing in hand-applied urushi lacquer and powder, and then returned to Tokyo for final assembly and setting of the 14k solid gold nib, itself the result of an exacting manufacturing process requiring over thirty distinct steps to be completed.
The process continues with our complimentary nib tuning services, which adjust optimum pressure and ink flow to your own personal preferences. Our optional nib customizations can then provide additional character and distinctiveness in your writing on the page. We are an authorized Nakaya dealer.
Ishime-Kanshitsu is a time-intensive techinque in which dried urushi powder is carefully sprinkled over a still-wet urushi base to provide a unique stone-texture finish. The skilled Maki-e artist applying the powder will even adjust individual flakes and grains in order to achieve a consistent and aesthetically pleasing surface.
The pen ships in an attractive softwood presentation box decorated with kanji style script. Utilizing Nakaya's convenient cartridge-converter system, this pen can be filled with any bottled fountain pen ink when using a converter, provided by us free of charge with your order. Platinum brand disposable ink cartridges can also be used. A fabric pen kimono and starter pack of Platinum brand ink cartridges are also included.
