This Nakaya pen body is made from hand-turned ebonite hard rubber which is then layered with Urushi lacquer in the Wajima region of Japan. Ebonite is a strong and durable material - vintage fountain pens using this material have lasted for a hundred years and more. The ebonite used for Nakaya pen bodies is itself the product of an artisanal work process, and is hand created using natural materials harvested from the rubber gum tree.

The ten-sided decapod design is both distinctive and practical - the flat facets reduce the chances of this writing instrument rolling across a table. Each pen is handcrafted in meticulously exact fashion. Nakaya’s multi-thread barrel allows this pen to be quickly capped and uncapped, but not every thread will properly align the facets in the closed position - it may take more than one try to find a thread that will properly set the alignment.

The Nakaya Cigar Decapod TW can be filled with bottled fountain pen ink using the provided converter. Nakaya pens can also use Platinum brand ink cartridges.

These 14k nibs are well-suited to customizations including Stub, Cursive Italic, and Left Oblique, as well as the modification for added flexibility.

Decorative rice paper, a simple solid softwood shipping box decorated with Japanese Kanji script, and a fabric pen "kimono" are all included with this pen, making it a lovely presentation item. Sensible and elegant packaging has long been a hallmark of the Nakaya brand.
