Taking the same large, robust format as the other Yukari Royale fountain pens, this one makes a simpler statement. Only the slender cap lip band and pocket clip complicate this iconic shape. This particular color red, pigmented with highly stable red iron oxide, has been used since early times.

The red is deep and rich, reminiscent of the dye that was used to color the fabrics of Japanese royalty. This vermilion evokes a quiet passion, ancient and simple.

Urushi, the red material that forms the surface of this pen, is made from the sap from the Japanese lacquer tree. The process of collecting the urushi (sap) refining it, compounding it with powdered pigment and applying many successive layers of lacquer to this fountain pen takes three months or longer to complete. This technique, though painstaking, gives this fountain pen its deep lustrous sheen and has been used by Namiki craftsmen since 1918.

 

 

This streamlined and subtle torpedo form is a study in balance. Even though this is a relatively large pen, users will find this pen enjoyable and easy to control. Sporting the Namiki pentagonal logo the cap clip reinforces the simplicity of this design while holding firm to a shirt pocket.

 


A most unmistakable feature about this pen is its feed. Namiki has successfully created an entirely monochromatic fountain pen. Long, slender and red: this pen is simple, yet stunning. Perhaps this is what a haiku would look like if it took the shape of a fountain pen? The Yukari Royale fountain pen comes with Namiki's highest capacity converter available on any fountain pen that we know of.

  


Available with your choice of 18k single-tone nib, this pen is a superb writer; smooth and consistent. Namiki has the deserved reputation of making among the finest nibs in the world. (we think so.)
