An exception is something that does not follow a rule, and Waterman's new Exception line of fountain pens breaks free of all conventions. With its quadrangular body that tapers into a rounded shape at the section for easier use, the Exception manages to be both visually unique and fully functional at the same time. This is the slightly larger cousin of the Waterman Exception Slim.

Notice the stunning design details on the barrel. Note the panel of platinum stripes that runs along the cap and barrel of two sides. These lines complement the geometric configurations prominent in the pen, and the platinum provides a stunning contrast to the surrounding jet black lacquer.

Notice the geometric design of the open rhodium clip, a design feature that Waterman has used since the 1960s, which complements the quadrangular shape of the pen.

Both ends are square in shape, although the cap end has the Waterman "W" intricately imprinted into the tassie.
