Eboya Ricchiku Large Akebono C/C
Eboya Ricchiku fountain pens are hand-crafted from ebonite hard rubber to resemble the notched appearance of natural bamboo. The Ricchiku is available in the Large and Medium, and in two different colors: Akebono Red and Kaze Blue-Green.
Eboya pens are individually handcrafted in a process requiring a minimum of three to six months.
Eboya's parent company, Nikko Ebonite Ltd., is the supplier of ebonite hard rubber to most of the major Japanese pen manufacturers, but the pens they produce under their own brand name display a distinct design approach which is uniquely their own. Each Eboya pen is hand-turned from natural ebonite which has been sustainably harvested from the Asian rubber gum tree, then hand-assembled and polished in a process which requires six months or more.
Raw ebonite pens are prized for their unique marbled appearance, though care should be taken to avoid prolonged exposure to excessive heat or direct sunlight. Eboya considers the color changes that may develop in time to be part of the natural seasoning process which adds to the aesthetic value of the pen, just as an antique desk gains interest through the aging of its wood. "Wabi-Sabi" is the Japanese term for this principle that objects gain in value and artistic interest through use and aging.
