The striped barrel is created using cellulose acetate for the underlying orange, and high quality resin for the dark brown. Tortoiseshell pattern has a long tradition in quality writing instruments, with its usage dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries, when actual tortoise shells were used for decorating jewelry and lacquerware. Fortunately for our reptilian friends, no actual tortoises were harmed in the making of this pen. 

We are able to provide this pen with any of Pelikan's interchangeable M400 14k two-tone solid gold nib units. The clip and rings are 24k gold-plated, and the pen ships in an attractive Pelikan presentation box.
