Nakaya celebrates two decades of existence as the artisanal offshoot of the larger Platinum Pen Company with a pair of limited edition pens which epitomize the Nakaya approach to style, design, and writing quality. In this pen, solid black urushi, known as Kuro-roiro, is used for the cap and barrel of the pen, while a lighter silver finish is used for the decorative string-wrapping overlay.

The distinctive new cylindrical model being introduced, described by Nakaya as being halfway between the Portable and Long sizes in length, is expected to be a comfortable fit for most users. The cap features a double-layered cast sterling silver crown inspired both by "Koetsuji-gaki," a criss-crossed bamboo fence in Koetsuji Temple in Kyoto, and "Namako-kabe," a traditional Japanese wall design which utilizes square tiles joined with raised plaster in a diagonal pattern. On the cap top, the Nakaya trademark and limited edition serial number are engraved.

Like all Nakaya fountain pens, the 20th Anniversary Aka-tamenuri Kuro-tamenuri String-Rolled utilizes Nakaya's convenient cartridge-converter fill system - the pen can fill with any bottled ink when fitted with the provided converter, and can also use Platinum brand disposable ink cartridges. The pen ships in a softwood presentation box which includes a special stamp on the lid commemorating the company's 20th anniversary. Besides the converter, a fabric pen kimono and starter pack of ink cartridges are also included.
