With its distinctive facets and torsioned shape, the Nakaya Decapod Writer TW in Toki-tamenuri takes the already unique Decapod model to a whole new level. The facets beautifully showcase the pinkish Toki-tamenuri finish, as the under-layers breaks through at the edges.

With time and use the underlying Toki color will become even more prominent. This is an excellent choice for those who covet the now discontinued Shiro-tamenuri finish, as it features a similar brown over-layer with a slightly warmer result, and is sure to become one of the most popular finishes in the Nakaya repertoire.

The facets of the Decapod Writer TW serve a practical purpose as they prevent the fountain pen from rolling off of a table. Nakaya’s multi-thread barrel allows this pen to be quickly capped and uncapped, but not every thread will properly align the facets in the closed position - it may take more than one try to find a thread that will properly set the alignment.

As with all Nakaya urushi pens, each Decapod Writer TW is made of hand-turned ebonite hard rubber, then sent to the Wajima region in western Japan for finishing with urushi lacquer. Colors will vary slightly from pen to pen - no two will ever be exactly alike. "Toki" refers to the Japanese Crested Ibis, a bird once abundant in Japan but now on the verge of extinction. Covered with a veil of pinkish-white feathers, this bird is a Japanese treasure, and a model on which the under-layers of the Toki-tamenuri finish are based.

See the flat surface of the end caps, gleaming with lacquer layers. You can see the ten-sided decagon shape clearly as you peer down from an angle. A gold-plated clip complements the warmth of the Toki-tamenuri finish, and allows the pen to be securely affixed to a shirt pocket.

14k nibs are well-suited to customizations including Stub, Cursive Italic, and Left Oblique, as well as the modification for added flex.
