With its deep purple color and smooth tamenuri finish, the Nakaya Dorsal Fin Version 2 Shobu fountain pen appears sleek and minimalistic. The unique double fin on the cap and barrel brings an angular dimension to this excellent writing instrument.

Take a look at the way the Dorsal Fin Version 2 fountain pen seems to billow like a sail in the wind when it is turned on its side. The Shobu finish has elements of blue when viewed in some lights, a great color choice for those who prefer some depth and ambiguity.

Utilizing a time-intensive procedure, this pen is made by applying multiple layers of urushi lacquer to the height of the fin. Aside from being visually intriguing, the fins serve as built-in rollstoppers.

The Dorsal Fin Version 2 is also a terrific everyday writer. As with all Nakaya pens, the balance is superb.

Nakaya pens can be filled with bottled ink using the provided converter, and can also use Platinum brand cartridges. Hand-painted Maki-e converters are also available.

The Nakaya Dorsal Fin Version 2 in smooth Shobu finish is provided with solid gold 14k single-tone nib in your choice of tipping size.

The double slit Music nib is available at an added premium, as are plated nibs in Pink Gold, Rhodium, Ruthenium, or Two-Tone.

14k nibs are well-suited to customizations including Stub, Cursive Italic, and Left Oblique, as well as the modification for added flex.

Decorative rice paper, a simple solid softwood shipping box decorated with Japanese Kanji script, and a fabric pen "kimono" are all included with this pen, making it a lovely presentation item. Sensible and elegant packaging has long been a hallmark of the Nakaya brand.

Nakaya pens are individually handcrafted in a process that requires a minimum of three to six months and often much longer.
