The Cross Peerless Nib - Made In Japan by Sailor

Blog

While customizing a Broad Cross Peerless 125 nib unit to a Cursive Italic, I was reminded that these nibs show the quality that is typical of Sailor.  Sailor creates these 18k solid gold nibs specially for American-owned Cross. It made about a .6mm down-stroke and a .2mm cross-stroke, showing good line-width variation when the customization was complete.

Everything about the nib is as good as it gets -- the tipping is hard, smooth, and regular, the rhodium plating is thick and solid, and the 18K gold is thick, firm, and perfectly aligned. I had little trouble making the cuts and shapes I wanted. Bravo again to Sailor. Though Sailor does not make the nibs for its own pens available for individual sale, it is great to know that these Cross nibs at least can be ordered separately! This model of nib also come as a Zoom, a favorite of mine for making the Architect's point which allows for a very narrow down-stroke and a broad cross-stroke.  This customization is also favored by those writing in Arabic and Hebraic scripts.
