The Sailor King of Pen Asa-tsuyu Limited Edition fountain pen depicts the delicate moment when daylight breaks and the sun reflects off of the morning dew.

The King of Pen is well-known as Sailor's largest fountain pen, similar in size to the Montblanc 149, and is an ideal canvas for detailed artwork and Maki-e techniques. Available in only 33 numbered pieces worldwide, we have managed to secure a small number of the King of Pen Asa-tsuyu pens for our customers.


The King of Pen is handcrafted from ebonite and then finished with up to twelve coats of rich Urushi ivory lacquer. Here black Urushi is applied as the base, and then blue abalone (raden) pieces are embedded. The artist Wataru Kurotobi then finishes the pen with blue, green, and white Urushi to create a color gradation using the Hakeme-nuri technique, which mimics daybreak cascading on dew-covered plants.


After a final grinding and polishing, silver powder is used to make drops of dew. Texturally you can feel the blades of grass and drops of dew against the smooth Urushi, mimicking the dimensional aspects of the natural world. 

Artist Wataru Kurotobi finishes each Asa Tsuyu pen with his signature in kanji and the limited edition number.


Sailor's King of Pen Asa-tsuyu Limited Edition fountain pen comes packaged in a wooden presentation box and includes a complimentary bottle of ink. The pen accepts either a standard Sailor converter or Sailor's cartridges.


The Sailor 21k nib is renowned for its smooth writing capabilities. This rhodium-plated nib matches the rhodium clip of the Asa-tsuyu.
