Nakaya Dorsal Fin Version 1 Nanohana-iro
The combination of a unique sand yellow finish with an expansive, angled shape sets the Nakaya Dorsal Fin Version 1 in Nanohana-iro apart as a striking work of art and writing instrument. Multiple layers of urushi lacquer are applied over a period of months to create the raised cap fin - this is one of the most time-intensive procedures utilized by Nakaya and can take from six months to a year or longer to produce.
As with all hand-made pens, colors will vary slightly from pen to pen - no two will ever be exactly alike. Nanohana-iro seems a particularly variable and nuanced color, ranging in tone from the drier desert yellow to a more yellow-green version at other times. This particular shade harkens back to a more vintage color scheme.
The single fin on the cap creates a silhouette much like that of a billowing sail. The Dorsal Fin Version 1 in Nanohana-iro is as much a bold architectural piece as it is a writing instrument.
14k nibs are well-suited to customizations including Stub, Cursive Italic, and Left Oblique, as well as the modification for added flex.
Decorative rice paper, a simple solid softwood shipping box decorated with Japanese Kanji script, and a fabric pen "kimono" are all included with this pen, making it a lovely presentation item. Sensible and elegant packaging has long been a hallmark of the Nakaya brand.
