Nakaya Decapod Writer Heki-tamenuri ST

The earthtones of the Decapod Heki Tamenuri reveal this remarkable ten-sided shape.  The edges and planes show so much difference between the deep earth brown and the vibrant green under-color that the design of the pen leaps forward.

The Nakaya Decapod Writer Heki-tamenuri fountain pen shows brown-green on each of the ten facets. The Writer model has a clip, and shows off the streamlined shape of the Decapod with its crisp edges. Uniquely well suited to urushi finishing, the facets on these ten-sided pens allow the underlying color to be clearly seen. It is a shape that can be described by pure geometry except that it is subtly more complex. In the end it is the eye and the hand that this shape most satisfies.

The ten sided shape has another function. Because it is not round in cross section the barrel is not likely to roll off a desk. The gold clip also serves as an extra roll stopper.
This urushi application appears to glow from within. The darker outer color "pulls back" from edges leaving an impression of inner light. The urushi lacquer acts something like a ceramic glaze, emphasizing the form. The Heki-tamenuri color, earthy brown "breaks" at the edges into lines of grassy green.
Notice how the ends of this pen are beveled to finish the facets which provides a rounder edge, more likely to wear evenly.

These 14k nibs are well-suited to customizations including Stub, Cursive Italic, and Left Oblique, as well as the modification for added flex.

Decorative rice paper, a simple solid softwood shipping box decorated with Japanese Kanji script, and a fabric pen "kimono" are all included with this pen, making it a lovely presentation item. Sensible and elegant packaging has long been a hallmark of the Nakaya brand.
Nakaya pens are individually handcrafted in a process that requires a minimum of three to six months and often much longer. Pre-ordering is frequently required.

Unless requested otherwise, each pen or nib you purchase from us will be carefully examined, tested, and optimized for your personal writing characteristics before it ships.
