Sailor Specialty Nibs
The Saibi Togi Nib
The Saibi Togi nib is an extra-extra-fine point. It is finer than the traditional Sailor EF and is available only in the Professional Gear. Click here for detail information and comparisons between the Saibi Togi and other Extra Fine nibs.
1911 Size Nibs
1911 nib size is 22.2mm long and 8.9 mm wide (at the shoulders)

Special Cross-slit nib: Naginata Cross Emperor

With a width of about .4mm on the downstroke and as much as 1.1mm on the cross stroke, this nib makes what we know of as the architect's mark. The bent gold addition to the top of the nib, adding Emperor to the name, is intended to capture a surplus of ink, ready to be delivered to the tip for fast strokes.

Ed: we outfitted a Black 1911 with a Cross Emperor nib and received this as a testimonial: "I did receive the package yesterday at 3 PM. I inked the pen immediately: What a NIB ! What a flow, What a line (brush?) ! It's my first "sport" nib which would not dry nor skip in the central Wallis area !!! This pen was to be my signature/sketch pen as it is too broad for my small writing, but with this flow and smoothness, I need to use it all the time. I even start to write bigger ... About the pen as a whole, I love it ! the nice, solid, conservative black 1911 equipped with such alien nib is really exciting ! Many thanks for your business. Hasta luego!

An ideal nib for an Architect's tip customization is the zoom nib. Click here for the Sailor Zoom.
These images show the cross slit in Naginata tipping. The mark it makes is like the Zoom nib on steroids, very juicy and broad on the cross stroke. It varies in thickness from a fine to a double broad, depending on the height of angle at which the pen is held. Partly because of the generous ink flow, this tip is extremely smooth.

Concord Emperor Nib
Note the fine writing line on the left. It is done with the Concord Emperor in its normal writing position. The word "same" is written as intended by Sailor, with the pen in its upside-down position. The tapering line measures about 1.6mm at its widest, on the cross-stroke.

Below is another example of the fine line created when writing with the nib right side up and upside down.
Notice that the Concord nib with its broad side to the paper shows the speed of the line stroke. The faster the line the more tapered it becomes.

John likes the Cross Concord Sailor nib because it offers a fine line when held in conventional position.  This is good for everyday writing. However, when a bold mark or signature is called for, flipping the nib over and writing on the top surface produces a juicy, thick and smooth line. The Cross Music differs from the usual Sailor music in that the cross stroke is broader on the Cross where the downstroke is broader on the traditional music.  Each offers line width variation.  The vary in opposite directions.

The Sailor Fude nib has a radically upswept tip.  It offers a very fine and dry line on the upside down position and a broad juicy line on the cross stroke when held in the traditional position.

We received the following testimonial from a customer who had ordered a 1911 Full-size Colors, Yellow, with a Naginata Cross nib: "The Screaming Yellow Monster arrived yesterday in perfect shape. Boy, does that sucker lay down the ink. I'm trying to figure out how to hook up a 4-ounce bottle of Legal Lapis on an IV. Bill Aldorfer" (2/3/06)

King of Pen King Eagle Nib
King Eagle nib is 26.70mm long and 10.2 mm wide (at the shoulders). It is a hand made nib which stacks three sets of tines on top of each other. Having the feel of a paint brush, it lays down plenty of ink without resistance. This is a signature nib to remember.
