Sapporo Mini |
|
The Mini-Sapporo black, released in February of 2007 is probably
the best value in fountain pens out there. Now you can have color as well. As
of November 2007 the Sapporo Mini is also available in red, yellow and blue. Even
though it is a tiny pen at only 4.2 inches capped, it still comes with the solid
gold Sailor nib. |
 |
| The nib is where it gets interesting. Though small, it is
arguably the best nib made in the world today. |
|
|
| The fine point measures somewhere between
a fine and an extra-fine on our vintage Parker nib gauge, making it a very fine
writer - great for marginalia. |
| |
On the down side, because
the barrel is so short, it will not accommodate a converter. Only a Sailor cartridge
will fit. But this should be no problem, especially for those who travel, as both
the pen and the cartridges are small enough to easily fit into a day pack. So
stock up on Sailor ink in cartridge form if you
get a Mini. |
 |
The cap not only posts on to the back of the pen, it screws
on. Never again with you have the cap pop off and land on the floor while you
are writing. Also, this avoids the "scuffing" problem that develops
after years of use. When the cap is posted this way, the pen measures a respectable
5.3 inches, long enough to comfortably fit into big hands. The width of this
pen is almost identical to the Pelikan M600. |
|
|
| Although this is a short pen when capped, it has
very nice proportions in the hand when the cap is posted - screwed on to the back
of the barrel. |
| This is a "small is beautiful"
pen, with an attitude even pen geeks can appreciate. The Sapporo Mini is
available with the following world class Sailor nibs:
Extra-Fine
Fine
Medium
Broad
Zoom
