Sailor Maki-e Hagi-Bush Clover - no longer available

I frequently find that the more modest the subject matter of a Japanese Maki-e pen, the more graphically interesting it becomes.

The Hagi/Flowers, Bush Clover proves this rule.

This simple motif animates this pen. The blades of grass, leaves and fronds intertwine in an engaging composition.

Notice the many material surfaces, from simple fine gold flake lines to coarse amber and shiny gold leaves to imbedded reflective squares of abalone.

Even the artist's signature at left conveys the exuberant expression of this piece.

The pen is the same size and has the same converter/cartridge filling mechanism as the 1911. It comes in a small softwood box with two extra cartridges and all the papers.
