King of Pen Marble
Ebonite
|
Ebonite is another name for hard rubber, the material of
choice for fountain pens before plastic came to be used in
the 1920's. Several qualities make ebonite the material of
choice. It is light in weight, can be machined and polished
to a beautiful surface and has a feel unlike any other fountain
pen material. The material is made by a vulcanizing process,
first developed by B. F. Goodyear in the 19th century. Waterman's,
Wirts and early Parkers were made of hard rubber and many
of these pens are still going strong today. Besides its texture,
hard rubber can be detected by it subtle scent. When in doubt
as to the authenticity of a King of Pen hard rubber writing
instrument, the nose knows.

|
Because this pen is manufactured individually
on a lathe, very few can be turned in any given period of time.
Each pen has its own signature swirl of deep red and black hard
rubber.

This pen reminds Danielle of Goya paintings,
with the dark tones of red and black, such as bull fights with
black bulls and blood.
|
|
|
The King of Pen comes in a simple dark wood presentation
box with a bottle of Sailor black Gentle ink. The pen accepts
either a standard Sailor converter or Sailor's cartridges.

"Pat
and John,
I LOVE this pen!! I'm so glad I waited for the mottled HR instead
of buying a plain black one when they first came out. The size,
shape and weight is just perfect, and the only thing that could
make it more perfect is that fantastic nib. It's exactly what
I wanted, John. You got it just right. It will be perfect when
I want to write small and still get the italic look. I don't find
any trouble writing with it as far as the narrowness and it doesn't
feel scratchy at all. I have a feeling this is one of the pens
in my now-small collection that is going to remain almost constantly
in the rotation. John, you truly are a nib master. Pat, as always,
it was a pleasure to do business with you. Your promptness and
efficiency is very much appreciated as well as your personal knowledge
and interest in the pens that Classic Fountain Pens sells.
Marie" (10/31/06)
