Sailor Creatures Of The Deep Limited Edition Sunfish

The Creatures of the Deep – "Mannbou" Sunfish Limited to 88 pieces of each creature worldwide, and with only a small percentage reaching US shores, this numbered series will be very collectible.

There are two Sunfish on this pen, one on the barrel and the other on the cap. The ocean Sunfish is the largest bony fish in the world and has been observed up to 11 feet (3.3 meters) in length. Just as the Sunfish takes up a large portion of the surface of the pen, so does it in its marine environment. There are ten Creatures in this series of which we have all. They are the Sunfish seen here, the Octopus, the hammerhead Shark , the Whale, the Moray Eel, the Penguin, the Clownfish, the Sea Turtle, the Seahorse and the Manta Ray.

As detailed in the left image where the cap meets the barrel, the artist used a band of blue and gold texture to create a feeling of a vast ocean. The other images above further illustrate the range of material, texture and surface in the service of this design. The abalone "bubble", featured in the middle image, seems to have just escaped the Sunfish's mouth, ready to pop as it nears the light at the surface. Abalone application, called Raden is one of the conventions of this medium.
