Sailor Creatures Of The Deep Limited Edition
The Hammerhead Shark
The Creatures of the Deep - "Same" Hammerhead shark Limited to 88 pieces of each creature worldwide, and with only a small percentage reaching US shores, this numbered series will likely be very collectible.
There are ten Creatures in this series of which we have all. They are the Hammerhead Shark seen here, the Octopus, the Penguin, the Whale, the Moray Eel, the Sunfish, the Clownfish, the Sea Turtle, the Seahorse and the Manta Ray.
Gold dust shimmers, giving the illusion of light reflected in water.
Of the 88 pieces in this edition, we currently have the complete set #4/88 & #16/88.

As with all limited edition Maki-e fountain pens, the Shark has been signed and numbered by the artist. In this case Koushu Nishihara's signature appears on the barrel.

These pens illustrate the ability of this artist to exploit the shape of the pen in his design. The hammerhead shark figures wrap around the barrel. The artist captures the fluid movement of the sharks body in water. Pigmented discs give the sense of a submarine environment.

On the barrel one shark faces the pen holder with teeth bared and eyes directed upward. The other shark is swimming away.

The black resin of the pen offers a background that accentuates the deep purple and gold.

Static pictures seen here do not fully reveal the flowing movement. They must be experienced in the round to be fully appreciated.
