As with all limited edition Maki-e fountain pens, the Shark
has been signed and numbered by the artist. In this case Koushu Nishihara's signature
appears on the barrel. |  |

These pens illustrate
the ability of this artist to exploit the shape of the pen in his design. The
hammerhead shark figures wrap around the barrel. The artist captures the fluid
movement of the sharks body in water. Pigmented discs give the sense of a submarine
environment. On the barrel one shark faces the pen holder with teeth bared
and eyes directed upward. The other shark is swimming away.
The black
resin of the pen offers a background that accentuates the deep purple and gold.

must be experienced in the round to be fully appreciated. |
