Sailor
Creatures Of The DeepLimited Edition Moray Eel
The Creatures of the Deep – "Utsubo" Moray Eel Limited to 88 pieces of each creature worldwide
and with only a small percentage reaching the US, this numbered series will be
very collectible.
Two eel's wrap
around this pen. One is on the cap and the other is on the barrel. The eel on
the cap is represented in full and smaller, giving the pen perspective and distance
in relation to the larger eel on the barrel. There are ten Creatures in this series of which we have all. They are
the Moray Eel seen here, the Octopus,
the hammerhead Shark , the Whale,
the Penguin, the Sunfish, the Clownfish, the Sea Turtle, the Seahorse and the Manta Ray.
The artist has created the perfect marine environment
for the eel, dark black waters and rocky ledges. The eel on the barrel suspends
itself just above the rock. Its thick skin wrinkles as it opens its mouth, ready
to strike.
This pen illustrate the ability of the artist to exploit the
shape of the pen in the design. The static pictures seen here cannot reveal the
sense of movement as the eel wraps itself around the cap. They must be experienced
in the round to be fully appreciated.
Moray eels are known
as dangerous creatures, with sharp teeth to seize and hold their prey. Gold dust
is used to illustrate the natural bright markings of the Moray eel.
Abalone eyes glimmer
with focus on whatever prey lies within their reach.
The signature of the artist, Koushu Nishihara, and edition number, are
painted on the barrel.
