We cut a stub nib right away for this pen. The medium point makes a medium to fine stub that seems completely appropriate. See the writing sample below.

This stub tip is smoother than an italic, while still showing some variation between the horizontal and vertical strokes.  The italic is crisper, with thinner cross lines.  It sacrifices some smoothness, though, for more line width variation.
