We have been waiting for this pen to arrive on our shores. I saw it in Tokyo more than a year ago and have been wanting to have it here ever since. Finally, Pilot delivers the much awaited vacuum-filled-from-the-bottle fountain pen. This is a full size model in an semi-transparent amber colored resin. |

Having tested and shipped the first batch of these pens, I can give an unqualified thumbs up. The speed that is fills in only exceeded by the volume of ink that it holds, an amazing 2.2ml. |

| Don't expect to have ink fill the entire barrel as a partial vacuum gets about 3/4 of the semi-transparent barrel topped up. Nevertheless, its ink capacity is right up there with the Pelikan M1000 and far exceeds all of the cartridge/converter systems. | ||

| The pump, show above at half stroke creates a vacuum on the down-stroke which ends when the piston passes a widening of the barrel near the section. The ink is then drawn up into that vacuum. This is a well executed and ingenuous system. They call it a "Type P" fountain pen for "pump" filling. It relies on the same principle used by, among others, Sheaffer's pens during the 1930's. | ||
