The Temple of Artemis, which is the third
in Pelikan's Seven Wonders of the World series, pays homage
to the mythological Greek goddess Artemis and her temple which
is considered the largest and most impressive temple of the
Ancient world. It was the first large temple constructed of
marble, taking 120 years to finish. Pelikan has produced only

This pen is monumental, both in size, at
6.25" long capped, and in form. The cap alone is half the
length of the pen at 3.25" long. The barrel is 4.5"
long from the shoulder to the blind-cap, and is 0.617"
wide. The section is is proportionally large at 0.51" wide.
This fountain pen is made of white metal (palladium), with gold
trim, and weighs a whopping 121.5 grams. The clip, also palladium,
appears thoroughly integrated into the cap. |

|
| Shaped to resemble an Ionic column, this pen references this
quintessential aspect of classic Greek architecture. The Ionic
gold-plated capital on the pen is both emblematic and functional;
when capped, it would stop the pen from rolling off a table. The
cap cannot, and should not, be posted. Architecturally, the iconic
column was the simplest of the three types of Greek columns, representing
a Spartan point of view. |

As daughter of Zeus and sister of Apollo
and Artemis was the virginal goddess of the hunt and
of the wild. She was known to give life, nurturing with
her many breasts, and take life just as quickly. Because
she was both revered and feared she became a central
figure in the pantheon of Greek religion.
Located in what is Turkey today, a
distance from what is now Greece, this temple's location
is another example of the influence of Greek culture
around the Mediterranean. At the Temple of Artemis in
Ephesus she was worshipped, primarily, as a mother goddess.
Though the image of Artemis on the pen is an outline
of her form, the multiple circles on her torso have
been interpreted as breasts and symbolize her fertility.
Just as the statue of Artemis was constructed
in the innermost area of the Temple, the engraving of
this Olympic godess is on the section, and can only
be seen by uncapping the pen.

The base of the pen is engraved with a Greek stylized
flower-symbol motif, reflecting the Egyptian influence
in Hellenistic culture.
Each pen comes with an 18k gold nib
unique to this edition. Although the standard M1000
fits this pen, that imprint is different from the
limited edition nib.
