M400 White Tortoise
Even though these pens have been discontinued, We have placed a large order for them. When they are gone they will be finished. With a white cap and barrel ends, the tortoise colored barrel center makes a striking contrast. Everything else about this M400 is familiar: the interchangeable nib, the gold-filled trim, the Pelikan logo on top of the black button, the reliable plunger filler and the Pelikan beak clip. The nib sizes available are EF, F, M, B, BB, OM, OB, OBB. We like customizing the two-tone 14k nib for this pen to stub, italic or oblique point.
The depth of color in the amber pearl tortoise is enhanced by being surrounding in white. The plunger mechanism sleeve is also white, adding to the effect of transparency near the tail of the barrel. This pen, like all the M400s pictured below, is 4 7/8" long, capped.

"I am thrilled with this Pelikan M400 White Tortoise! Visually, I find it elegant in an understated way. But even better, the "crisp cursive italic" nib John cut is absolutely perfect. It is exactly what I had in mind--you two must be mind readers. I tried many different inks to find the perfect combination of flow and color. I settled on Noodler's Forest Green for now. What I found interesting is that the nib writes perfectly with a range of inks, including those I've found troublesome flowing in other pens. It also works perfectly with Noodler's new American Eel ink, a more free-flowing ink. So nice to have all these choices, and I think that's a credit to John's work and adjustments. I love the crisper italic line and the width of this nib. Opens lots of writing possibilities. Thanks so much! All of you are a gift to the fountain pen community!

"This is one of those times when pictures simply fail to capture the essence. The pen looks pretty in pictures, but it's stunning in person. As I mentioned when placing the order, this one is intended as a gift, but it is so beautiful to behold that I think I'll probably acquire another for my own collection. Magnifique!... "I got the pen yesterday, on schedule! I spent last night playing with it, and I have to say that it is really great! I have another Pelikan italic, and the white tortoise just blows it away! I tried each one in turn, and I could *feel* and see the difference when I wrote. The white pen is very smooth and fairly forgiving. The other one is more toothy and not nearly as effortless. Gah! ... It is truly a wonderful instrument, and by far the nicest pen I have so far (although I feel a 600 coming my way, near Christmas...). I am very happy, and now I'll have to go out and get more colors of ink!! Oh, and more stationary, too! I had a somewhat crappy time yesterday, and that package from sunny LA really made my day. I still look upon the pen with fascination. Thanks to everyone there for a lovely pen!

"I can think of only one word to describe this Pelikan 400 and the feeling you get using it. Magical! Truly magical! All I want to do is sit and write. When I have to stop, this uneasy feeling comes over me. John has truly worked his magic customizing the nib, and what a truly beautiful effect it has had on my writing. Thanks for such a pleasant experience. Sincerely, William Reynolds" (4/23/04)
