"Dear
Pat, Though the pen was late (UPS made an error), the burgundy Pelikan M250 (broad
nib, made slightly juicy by John) became nearly instantly my favorite writer:
I did not hold its tardiness against it! These burgundy 250s are simple, elegant
pens with a great nib. Straightaway I put it to work grading a stack of essays:
it nearly did my thinking for me. I'm a creative writer at a university, so my
job depends upon whether or not I continue to enjoy writing in my notebooks and
creating works for publication. And that's what I like in a pen: if it can facilitate
thought, if it can make the writing experience so stimulating and enjoyable that
I can't wait to write the next word -- then I have a pen worth writing with. And
that is the kind of pen I got from you. It's a brilliant writer and its elegant,
simple, modest design is deeply pleasing to my aesthetic sensibility. For the
moment, it beats out all my other Pelikans, my Lamy 2000, my vintage Sheaffers
-- and my Parkers too. Thank you! Gabriel Gudding" (3/14/05)
