Pelikan Souverän M1000 Series
This is Pelikan's largest pen, the M1000. At a full 5 3/4" long, capped, it's for those who feel the Montblanc 149 is just a bit too small. Available with only two colors of barrel: black and green stripe. The image below is with a black cap. (The M1050 is the M1000 with a vermeil cap. Please see images below.)
We have the version, above, which has a dark gray ink window (barely visible in this scan) or the more usual bright green, as seen below. The M1000 actually writes very differently than the M800; this nib is larger, the tines are longer and naturally semi-flexible. If you write with medium to heavy pressure you may find that this pen delivers too much ink flow for you (an attribute of the semi-flexible nib). Pelikan provides a full range of nib units from EF to O3B (please click here for our Tipping Comparison chart) in a semi-flexible 18K. Retail price $655.00
Our price for the M1000: $524.00

The Green Stripe barrel with Black cap, gold-filled trim, above, is Pelikan's traditional color combination and a sure winner in the M1000 size. We have one pre-owned M1000 for sale. Please click here for more details.

The image above is of the Pelikan M1050 version of the M1000. With a vermeil (gold over sterling silver) cap, the barrel can be either the standard Black with green ink window, as pictured above, or Green Stripe. Our price for the M1050: $749 (These pens are long out of production but we have managed to acquire a few more).

This is one of our special customized nibs,
a 1mm formal italic. We shortened it so that it would satisfy the stiffness requirement of one of our calligraphers.

Because the M1000 nib is fairly soft, it can be a problem for calligraphers who want to control the amount of ink that is put on the paper. (A flexible nib will put down a varied amount of ink.) This modification adds $90 to the cost of the M1000 pen or nib unit.

Held at a vertical angle this nib is very crisp. It can only be used with down stokes and cross strokes. Up strokes will catch on the paper.Held at a low angle, it can be used, with some difficulty as a cursive writer. Because it is so crisp, it is very challenging to use. Most people will not find this nib smooth enough for everyday writing.

M1000 Testimonials

"Hi Pat, Wow, what pens! They are the kings of my pen collection! I can see these two will become family treasures with my two sons. (They are 20 somethings and too young to handle the awesome responsibility of such magnificent pieces). They have already put them on their "lust list" along with my 1966 Mustang. Dream on boys. In the meantime I am delightedly writing away, and loving every minute of it. These two perform with perfection, each out performing the other. I do love this pair. Thank You for rushing them to me so I could take them along to the book signing tonight. (They can be my body guards :-) ...You All are the Best... Shea Stanfield" (2/12/06)

"I received the Pelikan (M1050). It is absolutely gorgeous! The OBB nib writes like a dream. The Pelikan clip is a superb design-the elevation of the tip makes it much easier to clip inside a suit jacket pocket. The pen not only fills the hand nicely, but is very impressive when topped with the vermeil cap. Taking this pen out, uncapping it, and beginning to write is an impressive show all by itself. I think I may have found my ideal pen. George A. Heitczman" (8/9/04)
