Pelikan Pyramids of Giza

Pelikan has introduced the first in a series, "The Seven Wonders of the World". The Pyramids of Giza fountain pen has been manufactured in a limited edition of just 445 examples worldwide. It is an homage to the Greek historian Herodot, who visited the pyramids in 445 B,C.

The Giza is an unusual departure for Pelikan. The cap is almost as long as the barrel, and is not intended to be posted . When closed, the barrel fits most of the way into the cap leaving only the blind cap, which covers the filling knob and sports a clear dome in which a tiny pyramid can be seen (see detail below).

The cap is seven panel or heptagonal, with hieroglyphs running the length of each. At first glance, and because we expect it, this appears to be an eight sided shape.

This pen comes within a pyramid container which is then double boxed, making a major presentation.

We are not given a translation of the hieroglyphs, but are assured that they are the work of Egyptologists in collaboration with Pelikan.

The engraved edition number (XXX/445) can be found under the head of the cap. The top of the crown is cast with the Pelikan and nesting young.

Available in fine, medium and broad only, this M800 size nib has a unique imprint. Of course any of the full range of standard M800 nibs will fit this pen. This nib is beautifully stamped, not laser engraved, with the three pyramids as well as a pattern of fine marks around the perimeter of the nib.
This abstract representation of the pyramids can only be seen when the pen is out of the cap. Laser engraved, gold plated and lacquered, the pyramids are seen with clouds above and sand below.

The pyramid on the end of the blind cap is covered by a clear dome. This pyramid looks like the color of Kufu's pyramid when it was new (we presume), sheathed in limestone.
The seven sided filler cover must be removed in order to gain access to the seven faceted filler knob.

A pyramidal ink bottle nests within the outer pyramid box. Four sets of magnets on the inside hold the pyramid shaped lid in place.
