Antoni Gaudi, born
in 1852, became one of the most famous Modernist architects in the world. This
pen and its case are Pelikan's tribute to Gaudi and one of his best-known structures,
"La Pedrera," the Casa Milà in Barcelona. The sterling silver
overlay on the pen is a representation of the grillworks in the Casa and the case
is modeled after one of the fantastical chimneys on the roof. All this information,
and more, is contained in the pen's round brochure, pictured below.
The cast case is made of silver plated
"zamac", a metal alloy. The package with its outer box weighs in at
just over four pounds.
The Pelikan clip is nickel-silver
and the nib, although the same size as any standard M800 is rhodium plated. Fines
only are available at this time. Of course the nib can be interchanged with the
entire line of Pelikan M800 gold and white nibs.
The Sterling Silver overlay of
this pen divides the spaces into what I learned in art school as biomorphic forms.
At 32 grams, this pen is no lightweight.
Extensive documentation accompanies the
Gaudi. Pictures of his architecture, both interior and exterior as well as side
by side comparisons with this fountain pen are enclosed within two round format
booklets. Found just under the cap of the cylindrical box, these booklets also
show the usual Pelikan filling instructions and the number in the series of 1000
limited edition pens.
The retail price on the Gaudi is
